Slow Motion

(A friend died last week.)

even in slow motion

each step jars loose a memory

which invariably spawns a tear

that thickens my droughty throat

so the words wash across my tongue unintelligibly

in some Seuss-like contraption

that has overtaken my brain

so I turn to go

but that’s

another

step
